The novel served as a visitor privilege for those who watched the anime movie adaptation of I Want to Eat Your Pancreas in certain theaters, and is currently only available in this such form; no commercial book conning the work has been released as of yet.[1]
Synopsis[]
Fuyumi hates her own mediocrity, and lives by her belief that "a life without anything is boring".
She claims that "if life is going to stay as tedious as it is, then I'd rather die dramatically", which causes her to quarrel with her father, Haruki, over their clashing beliefs about death. That night, when she's brushing her teeth, she sees her father calling a young woman and promising to meet her, which leads Fuyumi to suspect he's having an affair.
Fuyumi sneaks out the next day along with her childhood friend Anzu to the place where her father and the woman are meeting, and the two follow them to a graveyard. They overhear the young woman telling Fuyumi's father that he should tell her about the "irreplaceable person in his life", which causes Fuyumi to exclaim and emerge from where she's hiding, confronting her father about her theory of him having an affair. Haruki then finally explains the situation, revealing that the young woman is Ryoka Yamauchi, the daughter of the older brother of someone Haruki knew. He then tells the story of this someone, Sakura Yamauchi, and the time they spent together.
Fuyumi thinks his tale is extraordinary. Moved, she declares she will live, and she will live to be happy, as, if she does this, then life won't be boring at all.[1]
Characters[]
Fuyumi Shiga[]
A high school student and the daughter of Haruki Shiga. She hates that she has so many aspects of mediocrity about her, like her mediocre family and her mediocre abilities.
Anzu[]
A high school student and the daughter of Kyoko Takimoto and Issei Miyata. She's a childhood friend of Fuyumi who presents herself in an unusually cute manner, but is often quite hard to read.
My Father[]
Haruki Shiga, the deuteragonist of I Want to Eat Your Pancreas and the father of Fuyumi Shiga. He works for a publishing company. In response to Fuyumi's question regarding his choice of occupation, "If you had the experience of losing a loved one when you were a high school student, wouldn't you think of becoming a doctor instead of a publisher?", he replies that he wants to live by doing what he wants to do and what he feels is important to him.
Ryoka Yamauchi[]
The daughter of Sakura Yamauchi's elder brother, and Sakura's niece. She met Haruki because she wanted him to tell her about the aunt she never knew, since Ryoka was born after she had died.
